Pocatello Creek Overpass
Location: Interstate 15 in Pocatello, Pocatello Creek Exit
History: The Pocatello Creek overpass is typical of the on-going up-dating and remodeling of our highways. This site is typical in that congestion caused by population growth necessitated widening the Interstate to six lanes, and the exit and entrance ramps were updated as part of the overall widening project.
Interesting points: Investment in Idaho transportation is estimated to create more than 3,500 construction jobs a year. Another estimated 6,700 jobs are created to supply and support construction projects or are supported by workers’ wages. The Idaho Transportation Department applied a total of $302.8 million to improvements and maintenance of the state’s transportation system in Fiscal year 99. These monies paid for improvements to the current roadways system, such as the redesign and replacement of the Pocatello Creek overpass.
Statistics: The reconstruction began in the fall of 1997 and was completed in August, 2000, at a cost of $6 million. The contractor was Idaho Construction Company Inc., of Kimberly.
