The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer recently examined new wilderness rules announced by the Secretary of Agriculture Ann Veneman. Joining in the live nationwide broadcast discussion conducted by correspondent Ray Suarez was Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne from the IdahoPTV studios in Boise and Governor Ted Kulongoski of Oregon. The segment centered around the announcement that the Bush administration is going to allow governors to petition the federal government to permit logging and road development on federal lands which President Clinton had protected from construction.
