Firoozeh Dumas

A relative newcomer to the writer's scene, Firoozeh Dumas is an Iranian immigrant who came to America after the Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979.

Over the years, she began to feel that many depictions of Muslim women were too serious. So she set out to put down more humorous reflections of her immigrant experience in America.

The resulting book, Funny in Farsi, was eventually a best-seller. But it wasn't easy getting it published.
