Ed Bowles Biography

Ed first fell in love with Idaho's wild salmon as a kid in Wisconsin. It was there he first learned about the miraculous 900-mile journey these fish take to and from the ocean from their natal streams in the mountains of central Idaho. WOW!

Ed was always interested in fish and wildlife, so after high school he studied to become a fisheries scientist at the University of Wisconsin and University of Idaho. Coming to Idaho fulfilled his dream to see and study these magnificent salmon and steelhead he had learned about as a kid. Regrettably, Ed found that these fish were in serious trouble and rapidly declining toward extinction. He has dedicated much of his professional career to trying to save these fish and ensuring future generations can enjoy their bounty and inspiration.

Ed is currently in charge of salmon and steelhead recovery efforts for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. He has also helped teach many teachers throughout Idaho about salmon and steelhead and talked to many classrooms. He lives in Boise and has two kids, a daughter in fourth grade and a son in sixth grade.
