Dave Cannamela Biography

Fisheries Biologist Dave Cannamela grew up in Connecticut. Through his love of trout fishing, he became interested in trout and salmon. He was particularly fascinated by the biology of and history of the Atlantic salmon in New England. The story of the decline of Atlantic salmon on the east coast left a lasting impression.

Dave's fascination with trout and salmon led to his career as a fisheries biologist. He did his undergraduate work at the University of Connecticut and earned his master's degree from Murray State University, after transferring from Idaho State University.

As a fisheries biologist with the Idaho Department of Fish & Game, Dave now works on Endangered Species Act issues relative to salmon and steelhead. Dave, his wife and three kids live in Boise. He hopes that someday soon he and his children will see our Idaho rivers full of wild salmon.
