2008 IDAHO DEBATES on Idaho Public Television

Idaho Public Television, in conjunction with the League of Women Voters and the Idaho Press Club, continues its three-decade-long tradition of broadcasting political debates. Other supporting partners are The Associated Press, Boise State Radio, Idaho Allied Dailies, Idaho State Broadcasters Association, The Idaho Statesman and KIVI-TV.

IdahoPTV is hosting debates among candidates for two congressional races and one senate race. During the live, televised debates, the candidates face questions from a panel of reporters representing the Idaho Press Club. Some questions may also be gathered in advance from interviews conducted with members of the public around the state. Each debate is an hour long.

Thahn Tan will be the IdahoPTV moderator for the Sunday, October 12, debate between Rep. Mike Simpson and challenger Deborah Holmes, candidates for the Second Congressional District. IdahoPTV’s Marcia Franklin moderates the debate between Rep. Bill Sali and challenger Walt Minnick, the First Congressional District candidates, on Sunday, October 19.

Franklin also moderates the debate among candidates for the U.S. Senate on Thursday, October 23. Larry LaRocco, Pro-Life, Rex Rammell and Kent Marmon are expected to participate. James Risch has also been invited to participate.

“THE IDAHO DEBATES have a tradition that spans three decades,” says executive producer Bruce Reichert. “We are proud of the efforts and integrity that go into each debate.”

The October 19 and 23 debates air live statewide. Because North Idaho voters will not be voting in the Second Congressional District election, the October 12 debate will be tape-delayed in the Pacific time zone.
