In Mountain Home, Free Screening and Discussion of PBS INDEPENDENT LENS Film, “Lioness”

“Lioness,” a film about female combat veterans, will be screened on Monday, October 20, at the American Legion Hall, 515 E. 2nd Street, Mountain Home

A partnership of Independent Television Service (ITVS), Idaho Public Television and the American Legion of Mountain Home present a free screening of a new INDEPENDENT LENS offering. This is a sneak preview in advance of the IdahoPTV airing on November 11.

The upcoming presentation from the ITVS Community Cinema is “Lioness.” This 60-minute film tells the story of five women who served together in Iraq. They went to Iraq as cooks, clerks, and mechanics and returned a year later as part of America's first generation of female combat veterans. Despite an official government policy that states that women are not supposed to partake in direct ground combat, these women most certainly did.

Following the film, Lioness Spc. Shannon Morgan and filmmaker Meg McLagan will speak and answer audience questions. They are joined by clinical nurse specialist Anne Flickinger of the Boise Veterans Medical Center. She will address combat stress and highlight resources that are available from the Veterans Medical Center.

The film will be screened on Monday, October 20, at 7:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 515 E 2nd Street, in Mountain Home. The event is free and open to the public, and you do not need to preregister.

The screening and discussion are in advance of the national television release, which airs on IdahoPTV on Tuesday, November 11, at 10:30 p.m.

Further information about the film and the event in Mountain Home are available at the IdahoPTV Web site: www.idahoptv.org.
