First Book title per month suitable for children about 4 or 5 years old. We
hope to work with groups that serve 50 or more children. How many First Books

4. At least 85% of First Books must be given to children from low income families. Describe your plan for distributing First Books which meet project requirements, including your method for selecing children to be served.
5. To the extent possible, the books should be distributed to the same children
each month to ensure the long-term benefits of this program-a love of reading
and an enthusiasm for learning. Will you serve the same children every month?
6. We are required to serve different children each year. If you have participated in the past, how will you reach different children this year?
7. Each First Book site must provide a workshop that involves the parents of the participating children. First Book partners will be required to attend one of several train-the-trainer workshops around the state. Within the first month of the First Book project, you will be required to hold this Raising Readers workshop for participating parents. Describe your plan for providing training, programs or activities for parents, including how you plan to ensure a good turn out at your training workshop.
8. First Books must be delivered to the child in person and accompanied
by an educational activity. Please describe a typical scenario for
giving books to the children you serve. (Note: Plans for extending the impact
of the books is a critical element in the selection process.)
A signed First Book Partner Agreement must accompany this application.
