Lewis and Clark Across the Mountains
An Engineer Tracks the Trail

This is a map of the explorer's route down Pack Creek {Glade Cr.} and southward through Packer Meadows (Idaho) to the very southern end of the open area. The trail was used in later years by the forest service and by ranchers as they brought sheep and cattle from the Bitterroot Valley in Montana to graze in the meadows.

The Glade Creek campsite is still as pristine as it was on September 13, 1805. You can read from the journals and see exactly what the explorer's were commenting about. This site is easily found by starting at the Visitors Center at Lolo Pass. Ask the attendant for directions.
