Classical Destinations  "Germany 2 - Leipzig and Mainz"  The careers of Bach and Mendelssohn reached their height in Leipzig. Niki performs part of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, and we visit the publishers Schott in the city of Mainz to learn the craft of music engraving and look at the original manuscript of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. P. Allen Smith's Garden Home  "Perennials for the Garden"  Allen tells about some of the mainstay plants he returns to year after year. He shows how plant breeders are producing more drought-tolerant varieties. [G]

This Old House  "Newton Centre Project, Part 6 of 16"  Work on the Dutch Colonial Revival continues as master carpenter Norm Abram recaps the progress on the addition, then turns his attention to the kitchen where general contractor Tom Silva and host Kevin O'Connor are working to reframe the existing walls to accommodate new door and window openings.
