Tiling the Bathroom Floor

Instructions:
I need to retile the floor in my bathroom, but I am unsure of the tiling pattern that I am going to use. The dimensions of the floor are 6 feet by 8 feet. I have checked at a local tile store and have found the following tiles to be available for the prices listed.

12" square for $0.99,
6" square for $0.75,
right isosceles triangle with legs
12" for $1.24 right isosceles triangle with legs 6" for $0.99
irregular hexagon with 6" sides for $1.49.

I can purchase these tiles in a wide variety of colors all for the same price. Custom shapes can be cut from a square tile, but they cost $0.25 per cut plus the regular cost of the square tile. All of the other necessary installation supplies will cost a total of $49.75.

Your assignment is to create a tile pattern for my bathroom using the available tiles, and then draw this pattern on the bathroom floor diagram.

After you have created a tiling pattern decide upon a color pattern that you think is attractive and add it to your diagram.

After this is completed make a list of the different tiles that I will need, how many of each, and in which colors. Along with this list include the prices of the tiles I will need to purchase and the total cost of retiling my bathroom.

When you are finished with the tiling diagram and the price list, you are to write a description of how you designed your tile pattern, the problems you identified, and the problem solving strategies that you used.

**Reminder everyone had the beginning problem of having to tile the floor.

You may work with a partner and you may use your calculators if you wish. You may wish to practice some of your tile patterns on the blank paper before deciding upon a pattern for the final diagram.

Stencils should be cut to a scale o f 1" = 1'

My Bathroom Floor Scale factor 1" = 1'
