Priest Lake

Priest Lake Aeriel ShotPriest Lake was born after the last ice age and contains nearly twenty-four thousand surface acres of cold, clear waters. This northernmost of Idaho's big lakes has been lightly touched by man. It exudes a raw, pristine beauty.

In the 1920's mackinaw or lake trout were introduced into Priest Lake. The deep waters of the lake suited the macks and before long they had displaced native cutthroats and bull trout. Mackinaws have done so well in Priest Lake the world record fish of over 57 pounds was caught here in 1971.

Reno pic with fishFishing for lake trout at Priest Lake has become a ritual for one Northern Idaho man. Ron Reno discovered this lake and its prime mackinaw fishing about fifteen years ago. Since then he's spent countless hours trolling it's sparkling waters for trophy macks. He consistently catches fish by carefully running his downriggers near the lake bottom where the big lake trout live. Over the years he's pulled in numerous twenty pound plus macks and is always anxious to return to his favorite fishing hole…Priest Lake.

"Everyday I'm out here it's different. You've got the mountains, crystal clear waters, the fishing…It's like heaven."
