Iris Falls

Iris Falls

Iris is another falls on the Bechler River. It is about a mile above Colonnade Falls. Iris may get its name from a Greek and Roman female goddess of the rainbow. The spray from this forty-five foot high falls often creates a rainbow at the bottom of the cascade.

Hikers stand looking at Iris Falls and the mist it produces.

For hikers the spray provides cool refreshment from the dusty trail.

“It was very refreshing for one thing because we had been hiking and it was just a nice break to feel that mist in our face and it was a different atmosphere being kind of enveloped in that nice cool pool vapor. It was very enjoyable. I could have stood there for a long time, in fact we did stand there for a long time enjoying it.”
