ANOTHER CCC?
During its history, the Civilian Conservation Corps employed nearly three-and-a-half million young men, rescuing many from lives of poverty and crime. The enrollees also learned valuable skills that helped them find jobs after leaving the CCC. For many, the CCC was a high point of their lives. It’s an opportunity some think should be shared with today’s young men and women. "I wish kids nowadays could build something to be proud of," says Fred Gibson. While in the C’s, Gibson helped build the Manning Bridge over the Salmon River. It’s an experience Gibson says changed his life. "Anytime you accomplish something that was hard labor, you come out of it a better man. A little more confident," Gibson says.
