"You can go to other places, but once you're an Idaho person, you're always one. There are just so many beautiful places here. There's a demand for the pictures, so yeah, this is my favorite place to photograph."

Steve is one of the continent's foremost adventure travel photographers. His work has taken him to dawn-lit Sawtooth Mountain peaks, kayaking on the Zambezi River in Africa, village lanes in Holland, and Patagonia and Alaska. Twice he has been named Photographer of the Year by the prestigious Society of American Travel Writers.

Since he began working professionally 20 years ago, his images have appeared on more than 200 publication covers and in magazines such as Travel and Leisure, National Geographic Traveler and National Geographic Adventure. Wherever Steve goes, people respond to the warmth and passion of the man behind the camera.

This Chasing the Light profile was excerpted from Picturing Idaho.
