BURGDORF

photo of burgdorf

Burgdorf is a popular stopover that was used by many of the early miners and travelers going between Florence and Warren. It's the site of a natural warm spring that was developed into a rustic resort around 1865 by German immigrant Fred Burgdorf. Burgdorf had been attracted to the area because of the strikes at Warren but soon decided the springs might prove even more valuable than a gold mine.

Today the first cabin built at Burgdorf and many other historic structures still stand near the large pool formed by the captured springs. The water from the springs gushes out at a very toasty 113 degrees, but by the time it flows out of the other end of the pool its temperature drops to around 98 degrees.
