Idaho Public Television Oral History/Senior Thesis Project

“The Idaho Homefront” series invites Idaho high school seniors to help preserve the stories and memories of Idaho citizens affected by war, by incorporating oral histories as part of a senior thesis project.

Projects may be submitted to Idaho Public Television from March 1, 2007 through April 30, 2008. Students are also encouraged to submit their entries to the Idaho Historical Society and the Library of Congress for the Veterans History Project.

A panel of judges will review each project and Idaho PTV will hold a ceremony in May 2008 to recognize the top submissions.

    Winning entries will receive:
  • First place winner receives a $300 scholarship to an Idaho College or University and set of history videos.
  • Second place winner receives a $200 scholarship to an Idaho College or University and set of history videos.
  • Third place winner receives a $100 scholarship to an Idaho College or University and set of history videos.

Winning entries will also be published on Idaho Public Television’s Website as a model for other students.

    Submission Rules & Guidelines
  • Entries accepted from March 1, 2007 through April 30, 2008
  • Applicant must be a High School Senior. Home schooled students are also eligible to enter.
  • All entries must be accompanied by registration form signed by parent or guardian and teacher.
    In addition to entry form, each entry must be accompanied by:
  • Summary of key elements included in project.
  • Release forms for individuals interviewed.
  • At least one oral history interview with an individual affected by war, thirty minutes in length.
  • Release forms for all other materials represented in the presentation ..i.e. photos; audio recordings etc..
  • Logs of interviews. (Video and audio)
  • Transcripts of interviews. This should be typed with speaker identified and time code also noted when interviewer or narrator begins speaking.
  • Still picture of the interviewees (with signed releases.)
  • Picture of yourself to be included with press releases, and signed release.
  • Comprehensive paper which explores the time period or events mentioned as part of the oral history.
  • Powerpoint, website or other presentation form which incorporates elements of all parts of thesis project.
  • A Self-Evaluation of your efforts and work.

Judging:
Entries will be judged on planning, technical quality, creativity, and overall presentation. Entries will be judged by a panel of media professionals, educators and dignitaries selected by IdahoPTV. The winning entries will be announced mid-May.
