The adventurer pursues an age-old Maori tradition - the origins of "kaitiakitanga," the responsibility of human beings to protect the natural world. He begins at Mt. Aspiring National Park, strikes north to the Franz Joseph Glacier, heads east to the coast at Kaikoura, then crosses the Cook Strait to the North Island and the capital city of Wellington. His journey culminates at Cape Reinga on the upper tip of New Zealand. G
