NOVA  "Why Ships Sink"  NOVA investigates the safety of cruise ships, which carry 20 million passengers annually on vacation aboard these deluxe "floating cities," which have doubled in size during the last decade. Some engineers fear these towering behemoths are dangerosly unstable. NOVA brings together marine engineering and safety experts to reconstruct famous cruise disasters, including the recent Costa Concordia to consider the questions about cruise safety.G

Rick Steves' Europe  "Rick Steves' Andalucia: The Best of Southern Spain"  To kick off a new season of shows, Steves presents a 60-minute special that wanders through southern Spain. He visits Sevilla, Cordoba and Granada, takes in flamenco music and dancers, sherry and horses. He explores white-washed hill towns and has fun in the sun on the Costa del Sol, before absorbing a dash of Britain in Gibraltar.G

The Desert Speaks  "Bats Among Us"  Montezuma Castle, a five-story 20-room cliff dwelling, served as a " high-rise apartment building" for prehistoric Sinagua Indians over 600 years ago. Now it serves the same purpose to a colony of bats. Concern over the possible harm that these latter-day residents may be doing has led to some very interesting hands-on research to study the impact of bat habitats on cultural landmarks. D

Ciao Italia  "Real Neapolitan Pizza/La Verace Pizza Napoletana"  Pizza was invented in Naples, and Pizzaola Gennaro Nasti proves it when he invites Mary Ann to help him stoke his wood-fired oven at Venda Bar in Providence, Rhode Island to create absolute authentic Neapolitan pizzas like Pizza Margherita Classico, Pizza Margherita Moderna, Pizza Napolitana Marinara and his very own Pizza allo Genaro Nasti. D

Taste of History  "Weekend Warriors"  Reenactment brings history to life, preserving it for future generations. In this episode, we visit the battlefields, mess tents and riverside encampments for first-hand accounts by reenactors. Chef Walter is busy keeping the fire going in John and William Bartram's kitchen as he prepares Mushroom Toast, Venison Stew, Bread Dumplings and Fried Celery. D

Simply Ming  "Azores: Eduardo Reis"  Ming heads for the islands on this very special episode of Simply Ming. Traveling to the Azorean island of Terceira, Ming cooks with a celebrated local chef and learns the history of the very popular dish called Alcatra which is baked in a traditional Azorean wood oven. Influenced by the Portuguese discoverers in the 15th century, this dish is made with fish or beef cooked slowly in a clay pot with bacon, onion, and local spices. D

Austin City Limits  "Sonic Youth/The Black Keys"  Elder statesmen of alternative/indie/punk rock, band members re-create the wall of guitars. Then the Black Keys exhibit the muscular, no-nonsense sound of their minimalist blues-rock.G

Sesame Street  "Latino Festival"  There's a street festival on Sesame Street celebrating Spanish culture and language. Educational Objective: Self-Regulation. D

Dinosaur Train  "Elmer Elasmosaurus/Dinosaur Block Party"  Elmer Elasmosaurus - The Pteranodon family travels on the Dinosaur Train with the Aquacar to an underwater train station to transport Elmer Elasmosaurus back to his home in the ocean. At first Buddy is not enthusiastic about travelling underwater, but quickly becomes a convert when he sees the spectacular sights under the sea. Dinosaur Block Party - The Pteranodon family hosts a block party to introduce their new neighbors, the Lambeosaurus family, to all the other neighborhood creatures. D

Super Why!  "Goldilocks and the Three Bears: The Mystery"  There's a mystery in Storybrook Village - the case of the broken guitar strings! Jack thinks Whyatt is the culprit, but he knows he's innocent! The Super Readers fly into the tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and meet up with Goldilocks, who is just as determined to prove that she didn't make the mess in the Three Bears' house! What will it take for Goldilocks, and Whyatt, to convince everyone they're telling the truth? Educational Objectives: To learn strategies for convincing someone, explore the practice the magic of spelling, and use the power to read to change the story. D

Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That!  "Flight of the Penguin/Let's Go Fly A Kite"  Flight of the Penguin - Sally and Nick are pretending to fly in their backyard. Oh wouldn't it be great if they really could? The Cat in the Hat brings them to meet his good friend Percy the penguin. After a fun race with a penguin and a bird, the kids learn that not all birds fly, but that doesn't mean they aren't fast! Let's Go Fly a Kite - Sally, Nick and the Cat are trying to fly a kite, but there's not enough wind. D

Wild Kratts  "Aardvark Town"  When a young aardvark accidentally becomes a stowaway in Chris's backpack, the Wild Kratts team sets off on a "door to door" search to return him to his home burrow. Along the way, they discover the incredible (and valuable) service the aardvark provides to all the burrow-living creatures of Africa. Science Concept: Aardvarks manipulate earth materials and alter landscapes. D

Science Trek  "Mars"  Mars is more like Earth than any other planet in the solar system. Known as the Red Planet, Mars has fascinated humans with its red soil, ancient rivers and hints of ancient life. Joan Cartan-Hansen and her guest scientists from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Todd Barber, Lead Propulsion Engineer, and Matthew Heverly, Mobility Systems Engineer, answer students' questions about Mars.G

Rick Steves' Europe  "South Ireland: Waterford to the Ring of Kerry"  As Rick travels the southern coast, he visits Waterford's crystal factory, the Kennedy family homestead, the Dunbrody famine ship, and Kinsale's star-shaped fortresses. Then he drives the Ring of Kerry.G
