Artifacts & Fiction: Workshop In American Literature  "Workshop 7. Ritual Artifacts"  From Victorian calling cards to Puritan gravestones, ritual artifacts reveal how humans create and define order in their lives. This session explains how to apply close reading skills to sacred and secular ritual objects to enrich understanding of the cultural setting of a literary text. D

Science In Focus: Force and Motion  "When Rubber Meets The Road"  A rubber band twisted around the axle of a plastic car provides the force that moves the car forward. In this workshop, fifth-grade students continue their exploration of force and motion by recording and comparing the distance a vehicle travels under various conditions. Students predict the distance the car will travel by counting the number of twists in the rubber band, and observe the car's speed as it rolls across the floor. When the force of the rubber band stops acting, the force of friction slows the car to a stop.G

Hands On Crafts for Kids  "Lettering"  Today we take a very personal approach using our names and monograMs. Our first projects are monogram ornaments made from air dry clay. Then make initial letter necklaces for you and your friends. Today's art journal technique is lettering - learn some tips for simple calligraphy. D

Signing Time!  "My Things"  After playtime, Alex, Leah and Hopkins return every toy to its "right place.". D

Jacques Pepin: More Fast Food My Way  "Sole-Ful Suppertime"  Jacques makes a creamy fillet of sole with mushroom sauce, paired with peas, mushrooms and endive. His dessert combines seckel pears in coffee.G

Chef's Life  "Love Me Some Candied Yams!"  Vivian introduces viewers to Rob and Amy Hill, proprietors of one of the largest sweet potato farms in the country and two of the restaurant's best customers. Vivian and her mom, Scarlett, make her grandmother's candied yams, and Vivian later re-imagines these for the restaurant with texture, sorghum and pecans. Mother Earth Brewery and Chef & the Farmer team up for a beer dinner, featuring first-of-the-season sweet potatoes. D

Great Performances  "Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers Featuring Edie Brickell"  Comedy legend Steve Martin is also a Grammy-winning, boundary-pushing bluegrass banjoist and songwriter. GREAT PERFORMANCES turns the spotlight on Martin's musical side with a concert performance of his new collaboration with Edie Brickell, who initially burst onto the national scene in the late 80s fronting the New Bohemians. They are backed by the Steep Canyon Rangers.G

Squash Blossom Quesadillas; Hibiscus and Pecan Mole; Rose Petal, Marshmallow, Mango and Pistachio Ice Cream. D

Rick Steves' Europe  "Norway's West: Fjords, Mountains and Bergen"  Rick sails under towering fjord cliffs, hikes on glaciers and finds surviving traditions in remote farm hamlets. He delves into Hanseatic heritage and takes in the salty hospitality of Norway's historic capitol, Bergen.G

Theater Talk  "A Tribute to Jerry Herman"  Jerry Heman's 83rd birthday is July 10, and we celebrate with an encore of our tribute-in-song to the composer/lyricist of the 1964 mega-hit Hello Dolly! Conductor Fred Barton presents Klea Blackhurst and Lee Roy Reams performing songs from the classic show. Next, actor/author Richard Seff discusses his novel, Take a Giant Step: A Romance in Radio, where he remembers his early career acting on radio and TV dramas in the 1940s and '50s. D

11:30 pm 
Closer to Truth  "Alternative Concepts of God"  Philosophers explore novel ideas of what God may be like. They challenge classical theism-the personal creator of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. D
