The special, taped at the Edmonds Center for the Arts near Seattle, Wash., celebrates music's power to stir the patriotic soul. D

Peter, Paul and Mary: Carry It On: A Musical Legacy   There once was a time, some years before the ascendance of rock and roll on Top 40 radio, when popular music veered sharply from the mainstream to sample American roots-music traditions. Inspired by the songs of Pete Seeger and The Weavers, this "folk" music, found its greatest expression during the early 1960's in the songs of an emerging Greenwich Village group known as Peter, Paul and Mary. In the Trio's new PBS show "Carry It On: A Musical Legacy" we share in the four decade long career of Peter Yarrow, Noel Paul Stookey and Mary Travers. D

Big Band Vocalists   Featuring some of the greatest vocalists of the 1940s, this special highlights "crooners" and "carnaries" as they are starting their careers performing with orchestras and dance bands on their way to being stars on their own. Among the legendary artists are: Louis Armstrong, Perry Como, Doris Day, Peggy Lee and Jo Stafford. Orchestras include those of Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey. Nick Clooney and Peter Marshall perform host duties.G

Nature  "Ireland's Wild River"  The Shannon River flows more than 200 miles from its source in northwestern County Cavan south to the Atlantic Ocean through the heart of Ireland. Wildlife cameraman Colin Stafford-Johnson (NATURE 's "The Funkiest Monkeys" and "Broken Tail: A Tiger's Last Journey") explores the Shannon's natural wonders, canoeing its waters and camping along its banks to capture the sights and sounds of the river's wild side.G

Rick Steves' Festive Europe   Follow Rick through Europe as he joins Europeans celebrating life. He ventures into the reveler-filled Parisian streets on Bastille Day, takes in the royal pageantry in London, wanders through a Venetian palace, and runs with the bulls in Pamplona. He stops to dine at an exclusive men's club in the Basque country, and embraces high culture in Vienna.G

Doctor Who Series  "The Rebel Flesh"  A solar tsunami sends the TARDIS hurtling toward a factory on Earth where human doppelgangers are used to mine dangerous acid. A second wave hits and the doppelgangers separate. The Doctor must try to prevent an all-out civil war between humans and the "almost people" before the factory explodes.G
