Sky Island
The volcanic Jemez Mountains of New Mexico rise more than a mile above the surrounding high desert, like an island in the sky. Environmental filmmaker John Grabowska profiles the landscape and humankind's place within it, where the effects of climate change are already transforming the desert and alpine ecosystems. Author and poet N. Scott Momaday and actress Meryl Streep narrate the stunning images of this formation, which encompasses the Bandelier National Monument and the Valles Caldera.
