Juliet Stevenson stars as Catherine Heathcote, a filmmaker who is putting the finishing touches to a documentary about schoolgirl Alison Carter, who disappeared in 1963. George Bennett, a detective inspector who made his name on the investigation that resulted in an execution, suddenly pulls out of the film project. Catherine heads north to find out why, taking her 14-year-old daughter with her, along with her own shrouded past.
