Act Against Violence brings you print materials, television programs, events, and links to Idaho and national resources to help individuals and groups find the information they need to combat violence and its aftermath, whether it be domestic, local, or national in scope.

Idaho Public Television Programming:

"A FORCE MORE POWERFUL, A Century of Non-Violent Conflict," a documentary in two parts, examines non-violent resistance movements of the last century. Part 1 looks at student lunch counter sit-ins (1960-61), Gandhi's civil disobedience campaign (1930-31) and consumer boycotts protesting apartheid. Part 2 looks at Danish resistance to Nazi occupation (1040-45), polish solidarity movement (1980-89), and the popular movement against Chilean dictator August Pinochet (1983-88). Airs Tuesdays, October 16 & 23 at 10:00 p.m.

Breaking the Silence: Journeys of Hope
This groundbreaking documentary on domestic violence tells stories of women who have broken their silence and who have taken the first step toward self-empowerment and new lives. BREAKING THE SILENCE focuses on how communities can successfully assist women in obtaining legal and medical help, as well as ensure their safety and protection. Watch for repeat broadcasts.

Domestic Violence Prevention Workshop
Plan your own training workshop for volunteer Guardians ad Litem, attorneys, social workers and other professionals who work to prevent domestic violence. The attached toolkit features a script and ideas for presentations on the following topics:

The training was developed by Boise's Family Advocate Program's Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program in collaboration with Idaho Public Television. Each segment is introduced with video clips from BREAKING THE SILENCE.

The videotape will be available in late January.

Whether or not you feel able to leave an abuser, there are things you can do to make yourself and your family safer.
