The mission of Idaho Public Television is to meet the needs and reflect the interests of our various audiences. We do this by:
Idaho Public Television (IdahoPTV) is an entity of the Idaho State Board of Education and holds in the public trust television and related broadcast telecommunication licenses issued and governed by the Federal Communications Commission. IdahoPTV is a statewide, non-commercial broadcast telecommunication system and new media provider based in the capital city of Boise with additional staffed facilities in Moscow and Pocatello.
IdahoPTV's service to the region began in September of 1965 with KUID-TV, Moscow. During the intervening 40 years, IdahoPTV's reach has expanded to include over-the-air broadcast television service to more than 97 percent of Idaho's population and portions of six adjoining states and Canada. An efficient system of five digital transmitters and 42 repeaters (translators) convey our over-the-air signals throughout the state and adjacent areas. In addition, IdahoPTV's signals are rebroadcast under federal guidelines by cable and satellite systems in the region, as well as a rapidly expanding Internet-based distribution system.
IdahoPTV has developed a reputation for producing award-winning quality television and other electronic media.
The following IdahoPTV productions are in national distribution: Barbara Morgan: No Limits, Yellowstone: Land to Life, and Ribbon of Sand through PBS, and Assassination: Idaho's Trial of the Century through American Public Television. Also in national distribution is The Social Code through the National Educational Television Service. The Peabody Award-winning Hearts and Minds: Teens and Mental Illness is among the many IdahoPTV productions that have been distributed nationally in recent years.
IdahoPTV produces a number of on-going series including Outdoor Idaho, Idaho Reports (coverage of the Idaho Legislature), Dialogue (weekly, live public affairs program), D4K (educational science program for grade-school students), Idaho Debates (primary and statewide election coverage), Idaho Legislature Live (gavel-to-gavel live coverage of the Idaho House, Senate and Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee), Governor's State of the State Address, INL Scholastic Tournament, Ron's Picks and The Buzz on IdahoPTV. Also produced are special programs such as The Idaho Homefront: "Of Camps & Combat," Idaho: An Aerial Tapestry, Idaho Edens, West of the Basque, Lewis & Clark: Crossing the Centuries, Hymns of Thanksgiving and Picturing Idaho.
IdahoPTV is the recipient of numerous regional Emmy Awards, one Peabody Award, New York Film Festival Awards and many other state, regional, national and international awards.
The staff is led by Peter W. Morrill, General Manager; Ron Pisaneschi, Director of Content; Megan Griffin, Director of Development; Tim Tower, Director of Finance and Rich Van Genderen, Director of Technology.
