Exploring the Science of Reading: Bridging Theory and Practice With Media Examples is a three-part course in which participants learn the foundational concepts of the science of reading; recognize the importance of using evidence-based practices in reading instruction; view videos and resources that illustrate best practices for teaching reading; and reflect on how to implement the strategies in their classrooms. Module 1 provides an in-depth overview of the Science of Reading. Module 2 takes a deep dive into word recognition, and Module 3 delves into language comprehension.

Module 1

What is the Science of Reading

In this module, you will learn how the brain has evolved to read and how science can inform our teaching practices. Discover how this research equips educators with evidence-based instructional practices to ensure all children become proficient readers.

Module 2

Exploring Word Recognition

In this module, you will explore how word recognition is a key part of reading comprehension. Examine video examples of reading instruction that use evidence-based techniques, and consider how to apply these methods for teaching word recognition in your classroom.
