Ready, Set, Read! Students in Grades K-6 Encouraged to Read Each Day and Earn Adventures

Smiling children with books

Idaho Public Television is encouraging children in kindergarten through 6th grade to read an average of 20 minutes a day throughout the month of March, for a total of 600 minutes, as part of Idaho Public Television’s Reading Marathon. A printable log is provided on the Reading Marathon web page to help readers track their daily progress, and once the challenge is complete, they will earn their very own Adventure Pass.

The Adventure Pass is a digital coupon book filled with fun activities located all around the Gem State. Families can print and use the Pass to explore Idaho while celebrating reading success! Our growing list of Adventure partners includes the Discovery Center of Idaho, Scheels, the Herrett Center for Arts & Science, the Idaho Falls Zoo, the Idaho Museum of Natural History, and the Museum of North Idaho.

Joining the Reading Marathon Is Easy—and Fun! Just Follow These Steps:

Make a Plan
Create time to devote to reading each day in March. Stock up on library books, craft a reading nook, or whatever gets your kids excited to begin their marathon.

Encourage Daily Reading
Support children as they read throughout the program. All types of reading count, including independent reading, read-alouds, audiobooks, and graphic novels.

Help Track Reading Progress
Assist children in recording their reading using a Reading Log. Reading is tracked by minutes read, not by amount of books or pages.

Confirm the Reading Goal Is Met
Check that the required reading goal has been completed within the program dates before submitting the log.

Submit the Reading Log
Submit the completed reading log by the posted deadline, either online or through your school or organization, as instructed.

Celebrate Participation
All children who complete the Reading Marathon will receive an email with their Adventure Pass in mid-April.
