Experience Harmon Killebrew’s life and legacy, from his humble beginnings in Payette, Idaho, to baseball superstardom and his remarkable will to help others long after his baseball career ended.
Idaho Public Television’s original series Idaho Experience explores some of Killebrew’s incredible feats with the Minnesota Twins, a special appearance on Late Night With David Letterman, and how Harmon’s charitable work continues to this day.
Killebrew once said, “The most important reason that we're here on Earth is to love and help one another.”
“He just felt like there were more important things than baseball. And helping each other was top on his list,” said his widow, Nita Killebrew. “He was a very compassionate person and loved to help people.”
Eric Westrom, the film’s producer, writer and editor, said, “Killebrew is one of the greatest athletes of all time from Idaho, but it’s what he did off the field that made him truly special. We’ve seen his impact on everyone we’ve met and interviewed for this show.”
Harmon Killebrew: Idaho’s Big-Hearted Slugger airs Thursday, Nov. 6, at 8:30 PM and again Sunday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 PM on Idaho Public Television. It will be available for streaming beginning Nov. 6 on the PBS app or online at video.idahoptv.org.
