IdahoPTV Awarded Three Regional Emmy Awards

Emmy Awards

On June 7, the Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences awarded the 62nd annual Northwest Regional Emmy® Awards for excellence in television.

Idaho Public Television is proud to announce that three of our productions from 2024 were awarded Emmys!

createid: Alternate Heirlooms

Our local arts series, createid, won for the short video “Alternate Heirlooms: Hallie Maxwell” in the Arts/Entertainment - Short Form Content category. Artist Hallie Maxwell’s great-grandfather was killed in the bombing of Hiroshima. In “Alternate Heirlooms,” she uses the tradition of tying repeating awaji knots in mizuhiki cords to honor him, as well as her great-grandmother and grandmother, who survived the blast. The works, along with other pieces, were part of Maxwell’s MFA thesis at Boise State University.

The video was produced by Marcia Franklin and directed and edited by Troy Shreve. This is the third Emmy for the createid series in its first three seasons. “We’re really excited that createid is being honored for its work, and grateful for the continued support of Idaho Public Television’s members,” says Franklin.

Welcome to the Unaltered State

General Manager Jeff Tucker, Producer/Director Jennie Sue Weltner, Assistant Producer Austin Henderson, Multimedia Specialist Benjamin Weaver, and Producers Tom Hadzor, Bill Krumm and Alex Hon were honored with the Small Market - Community Outreach Award for the multimedia campaign Welcome to the Unaltered State. The campaign, which takes a positive approach to encouraging young people to choose a substance-free lifestyle, includes a documentary, a discussion guide and resources for parents, a teen video contest, and a statewide community outreach effort.

Outdoor Idaho: Ghosts of the Frank

In 2023, Idaho backcountry skier and filmmaker Dan Noakes set off on the adventure of a lifetime, a ski traverse of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. On his journey, Noakes was faced with the “ghosts” of the people who once lived on this land. He filmed his journey of survival, perseverance and powder skiing to create the Outdoor Idaho program “Ghosts of the Frank,” which was awarded an Emmy for Environmental Science - Long Form Content.

Congratulations to all of the winners! See a complete list of all the Northwest Regional Emmy Award winners here.
